So now you have your domain name and web hosting plan all set.

Now what do you want your website to look like?

You basically have two platforms, going with it blog , or designing a website.

They both have advantages and disadvantages.

Build A Website – The WordPress Blog.

Its really easy to set up a blog now days.  Most every web host has Fantastico or Simple Scripts, so all it takes is a couple of clicks and your up and running.

Hands down, Word Press is is the best blogging platform out there. Its free, there are literally thousands of free templates available, and there are tons of where almost every problem you might encounter has already been covered.

Personally, I haven’t had any problems with the installation of Word Press, but depending on the kind of template you choose, you may have a small learning curve. Since this series is written with newbs in mind, I advise you to go with the most basic templates until you get the hang of the basics and then move on. You can easily change templates with just a few clicks.

Google seems to love blogs and they often have high ranking in engine searches.

The things about blogs is that unlike a website which is mostly static, you can easily make a post several times a day to update your site without having to do anything complicated or having to know any special codes.

Build A Website – The Website Template

The website format is mostly static. Meaning you design it and then just occasionally make changes to it.

Again, there are many free templates out there, as well as – WYSIWYG – What You See Is What You Get – website designing programs. Some of them are available for free. Your web hosting plan most likely has a they make available available to its customers.

Build A Website –

Just do some research, put in your keyword and see how other sites look. Take note of what you like and don’t like. Don’t just completely copy someone’s format though. The search engines generally penalize .

There are plenty of free tools available out there for whatever platform you decide to go with, a blog or a website, so why not do both and increase your chances of getting recognized by the search engines.

I could put together a list and links of various site that have all the information you need to get started, but I can’t stress enough about learning to do the internet research yourself. Put in your search engine request in different ways, and try different search engines.

If you still can’t find an answer for a particular question or problem, join a forum and ask your question. If you come across nicely there are plenty of people who will give you a helping .
